Community-Based Services

People and families with histories of incarceration find resources, learning opportunities, and, above all, community at our sites in Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Buffalo. So do those who are arrested or under community supervision at much higher rates than their peers, including young men of color and people who identify as LGBTQIA+, who can come together safely and know they will be treated with respect in our spaces. For people facing the overwhelming task of rebuilding a life after incarceration, our staff are there to address needs for housing, health care, employment, schooling, financial resources, and family support.  

Since the experience of arrest, prosecution, or incarceration creates harm that radiates through families, we support loved ones at our sites through a free transportation program to state prisons, video visits to prisons and jails, activities and groups for directly affected women and young people, and civic engagement opportunities.   

Early and frequent encounters with law enforcement can disrupt schooling, housing, and employment prospects for those whose communities are historically overpoliced and impoverished. To address these challenges, Osborne offers case management for LGBT+ people and runs a suite of programs for young adults that employ mentors who facilitate life-changing curricula and provide trauma screenings, academic support, employment training, paid internships, and leadership opportunities.
